About Us
The Hurricanes is an elite team made up of premier high school
players from all over Connecticut who are coming together to play tournaments
through the Summer and Fall seasons. Now in their third year they
continue to play powerful lacrosse throughout the Northeast. For
2007 the team went 32-3 including semi-final finish the NDP National
Championships.
Returning coaches, Mike Waldvogel, Hall of Fame
player and coach, assisted by Western Connecticut Coach, Jason Ouelett,
with the addition of former Fairfield University Assistant Coach Darryl Delia,
are once again molding a team to compete for the national championship in
Florida in early 2009 and to showcase the team's talents for the college
recruiting community.
The Hurricanes are drawn from players
within the Nutmeg Sports Camps programs. Already a number of
Hurricanes players have received athletic scholarships to Division I, II and III
lacrosse programs . This coming September, 18 Hurricanes
players from the 2007 team will attend Division I collegiate programs on
lacrosse scholarships.
This year the Hurricanes rising seniors team and Gators
and Seminoles programs for rising juniors and rising sophomore teams and joined
by our newest program, the Junior Gators for players in Grades 7-8. This
team will be coaches by Tony Tanzi, graduate standout from Fairfield University
and Bost Cannons MLL draftee, Ryan Vilar. Coach Vilar was a
outstanding midfielder at Division I Hofstra University.
Goals
The Hurricanes have one goal: to develop top flight lacrosse players to
their maximum potential.
We believe that this goal is best reached with the skill building inherent in
being on a team where every player is skilled so that the most is expected of
each player by his teammates. Secondly, we believe that college play is
different from high school level lacrosse and the best way to learn college
level skills is from college coaches. Finally, we believe that being on a
top team with outstanding teammates and great college coaches and mentors are by
themselves not enough - that to develop fully players need the intense
competition achieved by competition at the highest tournament levels.

Plans
We plan to build a club based on super elite players under the tutelage
of one of the game's great coaches, Mike Waldvogel assisted by Jay Ouellet.
We plan to offer the best coaching to the best athletes and then train them to
play outstanding lacrosse under the intense competition of the region's top
tournaments.
In our first year 12 of our players received college scholarships for lacrosse.
At the end of this past summer, our second year, the number jumped to 23
Hurricanes receiving college scholarship support. We plan to continue to
develop outstanding players who understand and master the college game of
lacrosse.
